Fastest RC Cars On The Market: Fast! Faster!! Fastest!!!

As I go through my journey with RC cars, I realize the importance of having a fast RC car. The more advanced you are, the stronger the urge to have a fast RC car grows. After many tries with different types of vehicles, it’s time to handle the most rapid and of course most challenging kind of RC cars. However, the question is how to choose the fastest car.

When you look at the specifications and built-in features, you are likely to get stuck with the question above. How to choose a good one while you are granting so many options. I also found myself in the same situation. It took me quite a while to figure out which features I should take and which I should leave. After all, you can’t be greedy. Otherwise, you will end up having no car at all.

Below you will find a list of fastest RC cars in the market. I include their specifications, the pros, and cons of each section so that you can follow more easily. Further, I also make a list of things to consider when buying fast RC cars. This list will act as a guideline to help you understand the interior parts as well as other contributing factors to a great car.

Best of the best

Traxxas - XO-1 100+mph

CSFLY - Off Road Racing Electric RC Trucks

  • Top Speed: 100+ mph
  • Motor: Brushless Motor
  • Radio Type: TQi 2.4GHz Radio with Wireless Module
  • Battery: LiPo, 3-Cell 5,000 mAh

  • The car is incredibly fast
  • This is a  lightweight model, enabling the vehicle to perform top-notch speed
  • Precise handling

  • Suitable for skilled players
  • Battery life isn’t ideal

Want a fastest RC car? Traxxas XO-1 is hands down the fastest of its kinds, offering its high-speed capacity for a relatively typical price. The company has claimed their product the fastest electric RC car in the world, and they do present valid reasons to back up their statement.

Unlike traditional RC cars, Traxxas XO-1 offers a complete brushless motor named the Big Block. This guy can create 3.5 horsepower and rotate to over 40,000 rpm. Its lightweight proves to be efficient since the car carries less weight per pony than traditional cars.

XO-1 is a perfect RC car for experts, especially those who are capable of hand-eye coordination. Once you can control the wheelspin and torque steer, the car can quickly reach the speed up to 60 mph to 100 mph.  This model is also famous for its accurate handling. The controller allows you to maintain the ability to control the car while performing different behaviors such as oversteer or understeer. Its brake and immediate stop work correctly.

As for the design, the XO-1 is roughly 2 feet long, which is a perfect length. The chassis is made of aluminum – a high-quality material for cars’ frame. Furthermore, Traxxas uses plastic subframes to cover it. They even include suspensions and shock-resistant parts. Both are modifiable.

What I don’t fancy about this car is the battery. It can only function once it is entirely in charge. What’s more, the standard battery won’t let you race for long. The maximum period is about 20 minutes. However, I dare say that this fastest car with capability and functionality deserves to win a place in your collection. If you want a car with top-notch speed, this is likely the best in the market.

Traxxas 6407 X0-1 100+mph

Traxxas 6407 X0-1

  • Top Speed: 100+mph
  • Motor: Brushless Motor
  • Radio Type: TQi 2.4GHz Radio System with Docking Base
  • Battery: LiPo, 3S 5000mAh LiPo batteries

  • Crazily fast
  • Sturdily design, ready-to-run
  • Performs top-notch cornering

  • Suitable for skilled players
  • Quite expensive

Traxxas never ceases to amaze me with their fastest cars. And again, Traxxas presents their model 6407. It soon becomes one of the fastest RC cars in the market.

Like other Traxxas models, the model of 6407 features brushless motor named Big Block. The Big Block allows the car to run and speed up within a relatively short timeframe instantly. The ready-to-run feature is also worth to mention here. Traxxas 6407 is built on most robust material with durable chassis and supporting structures, allowing it run smoothly in any terrains. Some people complain that at first the car rattles, however, that problem goes away within a few drives.

Looking at the specification, you will notice that both front track and rear track are made in proper size. Plus the model comes with integrated speed and extreme speed control. That explains for its monstrous speed that can go up to 160 mph. At first, some people stuck with 50 to 100 mph. In order to unlock the speed, you need to buy an Apple device, such as an iPod touch, link it via the Traxxas app. This small trick can help you reach the top speed.

Though there is one thing I want to warn you, this model is not for an amateur. In order to handle the speed, you need to have a little bit of experience. Otherwise, you will end up hurting yourself or others. Plus, the price is another obstacle for those who are on a tight budget. However, if you can afford it, this model promises to bring you satisfaction.

Traxxas Jato 3.3 70+mph

Traxxas Jato 3.3

  • Top Speed: 70+mph
  • Motor: Brushless Motor
  • Radio Type: TQi 2.4GHz Radio with Wireless Module
  • Battery: LiPo, 3-Cell 5,000 mAh

  • The turning radius allows the car to perform top-notch turning
  • Telemetry sensors record real-time data for tracking.

  • Nitro powered car is quite expensive since you have to buy gas
  • Emits bad smell sometimes

Traxxas is a prominent RC car manufacturer that produces sturdy and high-quality racing cars. The Traxxas Jato 3.3 is an exceptional example of how much attention Traxxas puts into their products. This model can speed up from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds, which is a respectable time compared to other RC models.

Traxxas Jato 3.3 comes with a 75cc fuel tank, which means it can instantly run once it is on the ground. The 75cc fuel tank allows the car to run up to 10 minutes before you need to refill it.

What I particularly interest in this model is the turning radius. Traxxas has made it so broad, allowing the car to perform incredible turning at a wide angle. This model includes telemetry sensors that record your real-time data about almost anything you need to keep track of the car, ranging from engine’s temperature, voltage, and speed.  This is a handy feature.

The model 3.3 adopts EZ-start system. This system allows new users to get a glimpse of how the car works. However, it requires care and maintenance, which of course, could be a real eyesore sometimes. Another of the excellent feature is the vehicle allows you to adjust the wheels and tires so that you can race on different terrains with ease.

Though the battery doesn’t last for long, and this model requires advanced knowledge to handle, given the price and its essential features, Traxxas Jato 3.3 is a real catch especially when your only preference is the speed.

Traxxas Nitro Rustler 50+mph

Traxxas Nitro Rustler

  • Top Speed: 50+ mph
  • Motor: Brushless Motor
  • Radio Type: TQi 2.4GHz Radio
  • Battery: 7-cell Ni-MH battery
  • Features:TRX® 2.5 Racing Engine

  • Easy to modify with lots of replacement parts
  • Two-wheel system with the robust braking and reversing system
  • Reliable tires

  • The design is lightly obsolete
  • To get to the top speed, you need to replace the standard battery

Unlike other four-wheel models, the Traxxas Rustler adopts the two-wheel system. This two-wheel system seems to be a risky move since it doesn’t come along with loose terrain in sand or the like. However, Traxxas has ingeniously featured the braking and reversing that allow you to handle the car and maintain the track.

With the standard battery, Traxxas Rutler can speed up to 35 mph. In order to reach the top speed, it is advised to change the battery. Nevertheless, some people still manage to reach over 50 mph using the same old battery. That requires skills and understandings about the model.

Traxxas Rustler is yet another ready-to-run car, which means there is no required assembly before running. Just unbox the car, and it is ready for the race (only when the battery is fully charged. So beginners, who want to own this incredible model, don’t get confused when they unbox. Plus, it is also extremely durable with hard plastics and metals. The outer parts are shock-resistant, while the interior ones are entirely waterproof.

I also fond of its tires. The rear tires featuring big lugs coupled with the ridged front ones are perfect for off-road adhesive friction. In fact, most RC models with the speed of over 65 mph adopt this type of tires. One thing I  need to mention is the remote control only requires four AA batteries, unlike the traditional 8-AA batteries-required cars.

The only thing that could make this RC car less attractive is the design, which I find it a bit out-of-date. However, it varies from person to person. All in all, this is really a excellent RC car with relatively high speed and useful features.

Team Losi Desert Buggy XL-E 50+ mph

Team Losi Desert Buggy XL-E

  • Top Speed: 50+ mph
  • Motor: Non-Sensored Brushless
  • Radio Type: Spektrum DX2E 2-Channel with AVC
  • Battery: 14.8V 5000mAh 50C 4s LiPo

  • Suitable for all kinds of terrains.
  • Durable brushless motor
  • built-in AVC system

  • The battery is not included
  • Quite expensive

Lozi is no longer a stranger in the RC car market. They are famous for endurant RC cars with fantastic performance. Their Desert Buggy XL-E is the newest and of course fastest car that you need to put into your collection. First, it is worth to point out that this car is able to maintain its speed irrespective of terrains. It somehow explains in the name Desert Buggy. The standard rate of this model is 50 mph, however, depending on your skills and experience, the speed can get higher.

This model adopts 800 Kv Brushless motor. This type of engine has already gained its fame thanks to the sturdiness and durability. The brushless motor also allows the car to run at top speed without rattling. And because of this motor, the car can handle any types of terrains. The chassis’ 6061-T6 aluminum also contributes for the car’s overall durability, making the best option for RC car amateur.

This car comes with a built-in AVC system, offering limitless throttle and steering performances without you worrying about losing control. The DX2E transmitter supports you on every move, allowing you to make even tidy movement and manage the traction as well as speed acceleration. The tires are another wonders of this robust model. The tires apply Genuine MAXXIS styled patterns that allow you to handle stopping, cornering and swerving effortlessly.

The drawback of this model is quite significant. It doesn’t include batteries, which means you have to spend an additional sum on this essential part. The price of this model is quite high. Nevertheless, I find this model is an economical option, given its durability and easy-to-handle capability.

Exceed 1/8th RC MadDrift Electric Brushless Limited Edition 44mph

Exceed RC MadDrift Electric Brushless Limited Edition

  • Top Speed: 44mph
  • Motor: 540L 2150KV brushless motor
  • Radio Type: 2.4Ghz Pistol Transmitter
  • Battery: 7.4V 3300mAh Li-Po

  • Well-designed and sturdily built
  • Functionality and accessibility are outstanding

  • Battery life is short

First of all, I love the design. It is quite handsome with the sporty look. It also emits a reliable and robust vibe. This car is well-built with aluminum chassis and foam bumper. This adds extra shock-resistance and protection from external factors. Furthermore, the oil-filled shock is also an essential element of its endurance.

The design also allows users to gain access to the front and rear gears, and at the same time provide the easy-handling capability. The 2.4GHz pistol transmitter ensures the connection between the controller and the car within a vast distance. Since this is a drift car, its tires are slickly built, so that the vehicle can show off its excellent drifting technique.

The dual 3300mah batteries may extend the playtime a little. However, it is still considered short compared to other Exceed models. This could be the biggest drawback of this model. Like other drift cars, this model can speed up to 44 mph. As I mentioned before, 44 mph is a suitable speed for RC car enthusiasts and beginners. If you want to have an affordable with relatively high speed, 1/8th Exceed RC MadDrift is no doubt the best option for you.

Exceed RC 6x6 MadTorque Crawler 40+mph

Exceed RC 6x6 MadTorque Crawler

  • Top Speed: 100+ mph
  • Motor: 540 High-Performance Motor
  • Radio Type: 2.4GHz Radio
  • Battery: 7.2v 3300mAh Ni-MH Battery

  • A real crawler who can challenge any kinds of terrains.
  • Maintain speed even on rough surfaces

  • Maybe not an excellent choice for skilled players

I’m a big fan of ready-to-run cars since they require absolutely no assembly to get the car up and running. That’s also why this MadTorque Crawler is one of my favorite. I have to admit that I fell in love with it at first sight because of its sturdy design. This crawler looks like it can challenge any kinds of terrains. Once you get your hands on this model, you know that your first impression is right. It doesn’t just look, it does.

The front and rear wheels are connected through what called multi-link suspension, allowing it to handle rough surfaces. The aluminum chassis enables the car to withstand crashes and endure difficulties on the road. The MadTorque adopts three solid axles and 540 brushed motors. Together with the shock-resistant capability, this car is top-notch when it comes to durability.

As for the speed, this car can produce a rate over 40 mph, which is of course, seemingly less promising than its high-speed counterparts. However, before you criticize its speed, remember that this is a crawler. Its ability to claim over rough terrain is enough to counteract for the shortcoming of speed. 40 mph might not be impressive for skilled players, but it is something for beginners and hobbyists.

All in all, I do believe that this is a good investment. The price is quite reasonable. The features are perfect. So why not?

Redcat Racing Rampage Chimera EP PRO 40+ mph

Redcat Racing Rampage Chimera EP PRO

  • Top Speed: 40+ mph
  • Motor: Electric Brushless Motor 1220KV
  • Radio Type: 2.4GHz Radio
  • Battery: 2 - 11.1v 3600mAh LIPO

  • The buggy car that can ride on-road and off-road
  • Electric power is clean and economical.

  • Short playtime
  • Quite expensive

Most fast cars are ready-to-run cars, and this model isn’t exceptional. Once you give the battery enough energy, the vehicle can run for quite a long time. This model adopts RTR electric buggy, which receives both loves and hates.

Buggy RC cars are hybrid cars, a combination between offroad and on road ones. While they maintain the speed quite well on-road, off-road driving can bring several difficulties because of their wheelbase. This explains why some people don’t like the type. However, if you don’t know which car is suitable for your preferences, buggy cars are the best option out there.

Redcat Racing Rampage Chimera EP PRO adopts electric power. This means you will get less frustrated with gas. It is also cleaner and relatively cheaper, which requires minimum maintenance. Also, the electric power allows the car to have better acceleration. The downside is that electric RC cars tend to consume more energy and require longer charging hours.

This rugged RC car can produce a top speed of over 40 mph. When you come to think of it features and design, this speed is relatively high. Thanks to its endurant, rugged T6 aluminum chassis and oil-filled shocks, the car can preserve their top speed while offering an utterly supreme control. Given the price and its built-in features, I do think that this is the best option for those who are relatively new to RC cars.

Redcat Racing Lightning EPX Pro 30mph

Redcat Racing Lightning EPX Pro

  • Top Speed: 30+ mph
  • Motor: Brushless 3300KV 540 Novatech
  • Radio type: 2.4GHz Radio
  • Battery: 7.4v 3500mAh LIPO 15C

  • This hobby-grade car is suitable for beginners
  • Including drifting capability
  • Comes with a sensible and accurate transmitter

  • Shortcomings in transaction make it hard to handle the vehicle.
  • Low chassis is likely to get crashes easily

Redcat Racing Lightning EPX Pro is a hobby RC car, meaning it doesn't require thorough knowledge to handle the car. This is good news for RC car beginners since most RC cars, especially those with high speed, need good understanding to control them entirely. This model from RedCat also stands out because of its design and unique wheels.

As the name suggests, this car is able to perform the drifting technique when cornering. Generally, drifting cars aren’t famous for their speed since this technique and speed are in relative terms. This is not the case with Redcat Racing Lightning EPX Pro. This model can produce a top-notch speed, over 40 mph, which is incredible compared to its drift counterparts.

Redcat Racing Lightning EPX Pro is equipped with an exclusive system of robust and smooth tires. This allows the car to achieve the hardest drifting move; however, the downside is it makes the handling is much harder, especially for those who have little experience with drift cars. Don’t worry because this will go away once you get accustomed to the car.

You also need to be extremely careful while handling this model. Due to the low chassis to the ground, the likelihood of it to get crashes is higher than the counterparts. What can counteract to all drawbacks is probably the 2.4GHz pistol transmitter. This radio type is renowned for its precision and sensitivity, letting users gain overall control over the car. My final verdict is that if you want to have a for beginner model with both drifting capability and relatively high speed, Redcat Racing Lightning EPX Pro is not a wrong choice at all.

Hosim 9125 30mph

Hosim 9125

  • Top Speed: 30 mph
  • Motor: Magnetic Carbon Brush Motor
  • Radio Type: 2.4GHz
  • Battery: 1 x 7.4V/1600mAh battery pack
  • Control Distance: 262ft

  • Double motors for double strength
  • A hobby-grade car is suitable for beginners
  • Built-in heavy duty wheels

  • Top speed is not ideal

What cool about the Hosim 9125 is that it comes with dual motors. This feature enables the car to reach its high gear at 30 mph. Compared to other models, this is not the most favorable speed. However, considering it is a hobby-grade, which is designed for people with fewer experiences and demands, this speed is comprehensible.

The Hosim 9125 comes with heavy-duty wheels. These wheels feature large stick tires, allowing the car to drive on both off-road and on-road. The 4W system also enables the vehicle to handle surprising dropping, especially when it is on unstable, rough terrain. The controller also offers a four-direction control that makes it easier to manage the movement of the car.

The car is sized 1:10 – a tremendous proportional size for an RC car. When it comes to design, the sharp features and structural design enable the vehicle to withstand any environments and unstable roads. Unlike other models, the Hosim 9125’s chassis is made of steel. Coupled with its stimulated shock-resistant capability, this is a beautiful RC car for hobbyists.

Things to consider

Car Bands

When it comes to fastest RC cars, RC car manufacturers are the most important thing to consider. There are plenty of good car manufacturers. However, if you want to choose the fastest car, you should choose between these bands below.

Traxxas must be the noticeable band in the market. This manufacturer gains their popularity by producing the most high-quality and durable RC cars. Though most of their products are quite expensive, the plus side is that you don’t have to waste extra money on replacement and maintenance. Traxxas’ RC cars have the capability to produce top-notch speed. Most of the fastest cars I listed above are from Traxxas. And almost all of them can reach over 100 mph.

Exceed offers a wide range of RC cars with a relatively affordable price. The price can start at $90, which is an excellent deal for those who want to start off cheap. The drawback of Exceed is that their cars often require care and frequent maintenance. If you don’t want to spend extra money on spare parts, then Exceed may be a good choice. However, Exceed is a great start for beginners and those who are not frequent hobbyists.

Team Associated and Losi

Both Team Associated and Losi are famous for their durability. Their products may not be able to produce the best speed compared to Traxxas. However, it is clear that you can better off from the endurance and shock-resistant ability. Cars from these two are great for beginners and also skilled players.

Electric or Nitro

There are two types of the power system that RC cars are likely to adopt: electric and nitro. Each has different capabilities and shortcomings. Electrical power is cleaner. It doesn’t ask for attention, thus requires less upkeep. Cars with electric power are great for home use, and it also can accelerate better in general. However, electric power has its limits, such as short playtime and extended charging time.

Nitro power offers many advantages that can counteract the shortcomings of electric power. The problem is most models adopting this kind of power are often more expensive.

Price of RC cars varies depending on the brand and the types of power and motors. Apparently, RC cars with higher rates often stay longer, require less maintenance, and offer faster velocity. However, these expensive vehicles may not be suitable for amateurs or enthusiasts on a tight budget. Many RC car brands offer affordable pieces that could be compatible with your financial preference.

When we talk about choosing the fastest RC cars, speed is an indispensable part that we need to take into serious consideration. Frequently, models with higher prices and under famous brand names offer speed above 60 mph to over 100 mph. Undoubtedly everyone wants to have the highest-speed car, but handling it also requires previous knowledge and skills if you don’t want to end up hurting yourself or others.

Most RC cars will use either brushed or brushless motor. The motor will have its own ESC. ESC, which stands for Electronic Speed Controller, helps control the movement of the car without letting run throttle when you are in charge. Generally, I would recommend you to go for brushless motors since they are more active, robust, and durable. They also don’t have a fixed period of use like brushed ones; however, they are more expensive.

In Conclusion

To wrap up, as you can see, there are  many available options for fast RC cars. The point is to choose the most suitable one that matches your skills and budget. I hope that you will find this list of the fastest RC cars useful, and eventually find your  car. If you feel uncertain, take a look at the things to consider, decide which factors are the most important and make a list from them. Never buy RC cars in a hurry because you may feel regretful later.
